This is my engine sitting patiently waiting to be overhauled.
I had another engine starting overhaul a year+ago, but I opted out of that deal, due to the time before I would actually be mounting it. It wasn't that great of a deal. I bought this IO540 from a super guy in Utah, who brokers aircraft parts. Contact me if you want his name. He is a parts guru. Engine is a 1900 hour, no-prop-strike, parallel valve C4B5. Just a great engine at a great price. Have tried to take it south to a A+P friend to start the rebuild several times now, but end up with unforseen expenses just before doing so every time. It'll happen.
Jack Morrison looked at this picture after I bought it and called it, "that ugly pig"...I am inclined to agree. Thanks Jack. You do call them as you see them! =)

This is my idea of EXHAUSTING for a 540.
Here is a shot of the 540 and my Cozy Girrrls Products 540 Engine Mount. It changes from the standard 360 mount by an additional 5th mounting point centered at the top of the firewall.
If you have seen a Long Eze or Cozy real lower cowl, you notice that there is a huge upsweep back there which is drag bucket. Lynn Erickson came up with a 4 into 1 boattail exhaust and boattail fairing for a 360 powered Cozy that ended up adding 7 knots to that planes cruise. My above exhaust illustration was for a discussion with him for a 3 into 2 + 3 into 2 boattail exhaust configuration for my IO540.
He builds the exhaust and I get to build the boattail fairing for it! Speed mods...gotta love 'em!

This is the result of the smoother transition fore to aft of the Boattail shape...no turbulent drag, evidenced by all the tufting continuing straight back. This photo is a thing of beauty aerodynamically.
This is what my IO540 motor will look like when finished.
It will be as purty inside as it will be purty outside. Lycon-worked engine halves/"o"ring gasket work, and port and polished intakes. Lightspeed I.E on one side and SlickMag, other. Airflow Performance will go through the Fuel Servo and advise on the injectors. It's all good. 280+hp I am led to believe.
